DECODE-PD

A group of clinical, molecular and computational neuroscientists with the common goal of decoding Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive brain disorder primarily affecting movement, with symptoms such as tremor, stiffness, slowed movements, and balance difficulties. It also includes non-motor symptoms like sleep disturbances, cognitive changes, and autonomic dysfunction. Because symptoms vary widely, each person’s experience is unique, but many face increasing challenges in everyday activities. Although there is currently no cure, available treatments can significantly relieve symptoms, and ongoing research continues to explore new therapeutic options.

Clinical studies

Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate new therapies or interventions. They are conducted in carefully regulated phases, each designed to answer specific questions about safety and effectiveness. Before starting, all trials are thoroughly reviewed and approved to ensure participant safety and confidentiality. Many studies also include healthy volunteers, meaning anyone can contribute to advancing medical research.
